Virginia Bernadette
Goven
Sep 24, 1933 — Sep 20, 2026
Greentree
September 20, 2026, Virginia Bernadette (Zawrotny) Goven, age 92, of Green Tree. Beloved wife for 64 years, of the late Joseph C. Goven; dear mother of Kristina M. (Steven) Alicea, Deborah A. (Christopher) Dell, and the late Cheryl V. Goven; Cherished grandma of Kayla Dell, Nick Dell, Shelby (Leland) Toney, Megan (Scott) Freund, Deanna (Philip) Fluharty, Joseph (Shaylyn) Zupcic, and Elizabeth (Raymond) Zaney; Adoring great-grandma of Sawyer, Philip (Amanda), Colby, Sariah, Matthew, Raymond; Loving great-great-grandma of Addison, Finley, Philip Joseph, Kayja and Daniella, whom all brought her so much joy. Sister of the late Raymond Zawrotny, Sabina Rebel, Bernice Buertner, Dorothy Elwood, and Walter Zawrotny. Also survived by many devoted nieces and nephews.
Virginia was a devoted mother and wife and a woman of deep faith in Christ Jesus. She believed deeply in the ecumenical experience of Christianity, even opening a store in the 1980's called "My Gift", offering Christian gifts, and love, to the community around her. She taught her children to be good Catholics, and most importantly, she taught them to be in relationship with the Lord. In the good times she was known to say "Praise the Lord" or... "God is good" and in the bad times she would say "God Sees" or... "God never sleeps". She was steadfast in her faith and had a joy in her heart, with her, through significant loss and physical pain. People who knew Virginia often referred to her as "sweet”, “kind”, “beautiful” and as a "woman of faith". Her family is reminded of her in Proverbs 31
She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. She watches over the affairs of her household, and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all. Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised. Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.
