Samuel Cicero Scarpaci, 68, passed away unexpectedly on September 6, 2026, a day before the birth anniversary of his grandfather and namesake, Samuel Cicero.

Born and raised in Mt. Lebanon, Sam grew up in a close, multi-generational family and called Pittsburgh home most of his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph L. and Josephine Cicero Scarpaci and brother Joseph L. Scarpaci Jr. Sam leaves behind his beloved son, Samuel Cicero Scarpaci Jr. (mother Jodi Rita Hakim), his dearest sister Josette Marie, his sister and brother-in-law Darlene and Brad Violetta of Chagrin Falls, OH, his sister-in-law of 45 years Gilda Machin Scarpaci of Blacksburg, VA, his nieces and nephews Cristina Alessandra Scarpaci and Christopher Collier of Washington, DC, and Michael J. and Kaitlin Scarpaci of Silver Spring, MD, and four precious grand-nieces.

Raised with the essence of family entertaining and hospitality, Sam chose food service as his career. He attended Mercyhurst College and Florida Atlantic University, where he studied restaurant and hotel management. A high school and college athlete, he and his brother, Joe, an avid cyclist, shared a memorable bike trip from Pittsburgh to Maryland.

Sam gathered friends along the way and was a hard, humble worker. For more than a decade, he owned two locations of Cicero’s Pizzeria, where his father and his sister Josette often helped. He was known for his warm smile, great pizza, Italian wedding soup and generosity, often donating meals to neighborhood fire stations and emergency responders.

After working in private and corporate transportation, Sam’s career was recently reinvigorated as a supervisor with Alco Parking.

Above all, Sam carried an immense love in his heart for his son and family. Raised among dozens of cousins in the close Mt. Lebanon community, he spent the weekend before his passing with them at the joyous, reunion-like wedding of Chip D’Alesandro’s daughter.
