Obituary

Mary (Maro) Bungas, of Dormont,

It is with a heavy heart that the Bungas Family shares their beloved mother and grandmother, Mary (Maro) Bungas has passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Monday, July 20, 2026. She was born on June 4, 1934, to Ioannis Koureri and Kyriaki (Markou) Koureris in Karlovasi, Samos Greece. Mary proudly embraced her Greek heritage throughout her life. In her twenties, she courageously immigrated to the United States in search of new opportunities, carrying with her the traditions, values, and spirit of her homeland. Where she married the love of her life, Christian Bungas who passed away September 26, 1999. She remained deeply connected to her roots and found great joy in sharing her culture with family and friends through her faith, hospitality, and especially her cooking and baking.

Mary was a devoted lifetime member of Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church, where her faith was the cornerstone of her life. She was involved in the Holy Cross Philoptochos group where she found comfort and strength in her church community and treasured the lifelong friendships she made there.

Mary expressed her love through food. Her kitchen was always filled with the aromas of homemade breads, pastries, and cherished Greek recipes that brought family and friends together around the table. Whether preparing holiday feasts or everyday meals, she believed that sharing food was one of life's greatest blessings.

Mary also had a passion for travel. She enjoyed exploring new places, creating lasting memories, and whenever possible, returning to Greece to reconnect with her family, the country and culture she held so dear.

Above all, Mary will be remembered for her kindness, resilience, generous heart, and unwavering love for her family. Her legacy lives on in the traditions she passed down, the meals she lovingly prepared, and the countless lives she enriched through her compassion and grace.

Mary's memory will forever be cherished by her family, friends, and all who were blessed to know her. May her memory be eternal.

She is survived by her loving daughters, Cathy Terasavage, of Pittsburgh, Joann Sheptak, of Palm Beach Gardens; beloved Yiayia of, Alexandra Terasavage, Christina Terasavage, both of Pittsburgh and, Peter Christian Sheptak, of Palm Beach Gardens; beloved sister of, Toula Georgaoudaki, Costas Koureri, both of Athens, Greece; and her beloved former Son In Law, William Terasavage, of Pittsburgh.

In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her sister, Nista Prodromou.

Family and friends will be received on Thursday, July 23, 2026, from 4-8pm at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church, 123 Gilkeson Rd, Pittsburgh, PA 15228. Trisagion will be held Thursday at 7:00pm. Visitation will be held Friday July 24, 2026, from 10 until the time of services 11am in the church. Burial will follow in Mt. Lebanon Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to William Slater II Funeral Services (412) 563-2800.
