Obituary

Mary Jane Krauth, beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, aunt, educator, real estate agent, avid walker and golfer, card player extraordinaire and philanthropist, passed away peacefully and among family on October 9, 2026, at age 89.

Born on January 17, 1937, in Lockport, NY, to Charles and Mary (Kulka) Kenney, she was the beloved wife of Ronald Jaye Krauth, with whom she spent over 60 years until his death in 2021.

She was pre-deceased by her sister Anne (Pete) and is survived by her sisters Katie (Frank), Peggy (Bill) and Patty (Bruce), as well as her brothers, Jack (Chris) and Dennis (Debbie), and dozens and dozens of nieces and nephews and their children.

The light of her life, however, was her extended immediate family, including Amy, Dan (Stacy), Laura (Jay), David (Sara), Margeaux (Mike) and Alexis (John) and all of their children: Jonathon, Jerrod, Sydney, Mary Jane, Jake, Payton and Parker. She also adored her great-grandchildren Chloe, Madison, Sofia, Jackson, Caroline and Mary Grace, and her one great-great-grandchild Ronnie! She devoted her life to all of them.

Mary Jane wore many hats, and all of them extremely well. A graduate of Buffalo State University, she taught elementary school in both Lockport and at Chartiers Valley. She then started a career in real estate, becoming the loyal confidante to hundreds of families here in Pittsburgh. Without fail, every client met would extoll her integrity and devotion. Her career was built on referrals, not the least of which were from her family’s friends, many of whom bought their first homes through Jane. Although that career entailed long hours, often during evenings and weekends, she somehow never missed a kid’s game, concert, play, recital, presentation, ceremony, or even after-school snack.

She tended to her entire family, imbuing life lessons through actions, not words, and not only with her intellect, but her grace, gentleness, humility, and charm. All guests (family, friend, friend of friend, etc.) were welcomed generously at 469 Greenhurst, and were given food, drink, and entertainment. A graceful winner and loser at card games, all bets were paid, no matter how small! She also had a special place in her heart for her many friends from different walks of life, and spent countless hours walking, golfing, playing cards, or just sitting around with an evening cocktail on the porch.

A devout yet private Catholic, she also never missed Mass and was a parishioner at Our Lady of Grace for over sixty years. She participated in innumerable charitable activities both through the church and privately. She sent $5 checks to dozens of charities each month for decades. Always, though, she had time for family.

She will be deeply missed but forever in our hearts and souls. We were extremely fortunate to have her shining light in our lives for so long, and she will remain in our spirit forever.

The family would like to express its heartfelt gratitude to the loving staff at Discovery Commons, where she spent her last year, the loving Hospice staff at Bridges, and also to the faithful and loving caregivers at Seniors Helping Seniors but especially Irene, who was with her every day through her trying last years.

All are welcome to celebrate her amazing life on Tuesday October 13, 2026, from 5-8 PM, WILLIAM SLATER II FUNERAL SERVICE, 1650 Greentree Rd. Scott Twp., 15220, (412)563-2800.
