Maria P. Pellegrini
July 20, 1935 – October 9, 2026
Maria P. Pellegrini, beloved wife, sister, aunt, educator, and faithful servant of God, passed away on October 9, 2026, at the age of 91.
Born on July 20, 1935, in North Braddock, Pennsylvania, Maria was the devoted wife of Angelo Pellegrini, with whom she shared 28 years of marriage before his passing in 2015. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Salvatore and Margherita Pella; her sister, Finetta Barsotti (Candido); and her brother, Ralph Pella (Francis).
Maria dedicated more than 35 years of her life to teaching elementary school in the East Allegheny School District. Her commitment to education reflected her patient, nurturing spirit and her belief in the importance of helping children learn and grow. The countless students whose lives she touched were part of a legacy that extended far beyond the classroom.
A devout Catholic, Maria's faith was an important part of who she was and how she lived. She approached life with a generous heart, a genuine concern for others, and a willingness to care for those she loved.
An incredible baker and talented crafter, Maria expressed her love through the wonderful things she created in her kitchen, along with the beautifully knitted afghans and other handmade treasures she made for those closest to her. Her claim to fame will always be the Christmas stockings she made for those she cared about that will remain cherished reminders of her love for years to come.
She was the family historian, carefully preserving photos, stories, memories, and traditions to ensure future generations would always appreciate their roots.
Maria will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her nieces, Margie DiGiorno (Keith) and Margaret Zapfe (Richard), and nephews, John Barsotti (Pamela) and Salvatore Pella (Diane).
She was the devoted “GiGi” to Billy Sukitch (Brittney), Kenny Sukitch (Courtney), Joey DiGiorno (Miranda), Jonathan Barsotti, Michael Barsotti, Chrissy Sukitch, and Will Sukitch. She treasured their love and affection. Their visits and phone calls were like winning the lottery for her and brought immeasurable joy among the many blessings she cherished.
She held a special place in her heart for her many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear family friends. She cherished each of these relationships and cared deeply for those fortunate enough to be part of her life.
Maria's life was a testament to the enduring power of faith, family, kindness, and service. She gave generously, cared deeply, and loved without expecting anything in return.
May she rest in eternal peace and reunite with those who have gone before her. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered always.
Our family would like to express a heartfelt gratitude to the wonderful, loving, and attentive staff at Friendship Village in Upper St. Clair. In addition to providing our aunt with exceptional care, they created a place she truly considered home during the last three years of her life. She delighted in seeing her wonderful caregivers each day and deeply appreciated all that they did for her.
In recognition of the wonderful treatment she received, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Lifespace Foundation, 1290 Boyce Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15241. Please designate TMAF, (Team Member Appreciation Fund) on the memo line.
