Lowery K. Bailey

Age 84, of Scott Township, passed away on Thursday, September 24, 2026. He was the loving husband of Mary Bailey (Rush) for 36 years; father of Rhett Bailey and Chanler Bailey (Amy); cherished grandfather of Colin and Owen Bailey; son of the late Lacy and Hazel Bailey; brother of LaVerne Dodson (Pete) and Linda Mendoza. Lowery is also survived by many nieces and nephews and other extended family and friends.

Lowery proudly served and retired from the United States Air Force after decades of faithful and honorable service. Serving in Vietnam as a Navigator beginning in 1968 and continuing throughout his time at the 911 Airlift Wing. Lowery flew in C124, C123, and C130 aircraft, accumulating 11,737.9 flight hours before he retired from flying in 1998.

He was appointed the first Mission Support Commander in the 911 Airlift Wing. He also worked as the Chief Airfield Manager (CAM) and was Services Director from 2001- 2004. He introduced the Honor Guard Program in 2003 at PIAP ARS. He was one of the people instrumental in organizing the first and second annual Air Shows at the 911 Airlift Wing.

He also worked diligently with local community leaders and politicians to save the 911 Airlift Wing from base realignment closure in both 2005 and 2012 .

He worked to move the commissary to Moon Township after the site in Oakdale closed. Lowery continued to work part time in airfield management until 2019.

Interment to follow at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
