Linda Marie Miller

Linda Marie Miller, age 77, of Monongahela, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, in Summit, New Jersey, surrounded by her family. Born on March 6th, 1949, in Monongahela, Linda was the eldest daughter of Pellegrino "Mish" Pacini and Sarah "Sally" Mellor Pacini. She carried a lifelong love for Pittsburgh and the family that shaped her. She was exceptionally close to her mother, whose love was one of the defining influences in Linda's life. In her final days, she found great comfort in the thought of being reunited with her beloved Sally. Linda earned her master's degree in nursing from California University of Pennsylvania and devoted her life to caring for others. As a nurse practitioner specializing in gynecology and clinical research, and later as an educator at California University of Pennsylvania and the University of Pittsburgh, she combined intelligence, compassion, and an enduring commitment to improving the lives of her patients and students. In 2011, she co-founded PEAK Research, where she brought together decades of clinical expertise and her entrepreneurial spirit to advance medical care. Linda was fortunate to find work that was never simply a career. For her, it was a calling. Of all the roles Linda embraced throughout her life, being a mother and a grandmother meant the most to her. She loved her son, Ross, with her whole heart. She celebrated his accomplishments, encouraged him through life's challenges, and remained endlessly proud of the thoughtful, caring man, husband and father he became. Their bond was the foundation of her life, and there was never a doubt how much she loved him. When her grandson Jack was born in 2017, Linda discovered another love unlike any she had ever known. Becoming "Nana" was the greatest joy of her life. The name itself brought tears to her eyes because it reminded her of her own mother, affectionately known to Ross as "Nan." Linda relocated from Pittsburgh to Hoboken, NJ just before Jack's birth and spent his first year helping care for him every day, forming a connection that would deepen over the years. From that moment on, Linda organized her life around Jack. Wherever he was, that's where she wanted to be, and there was nothing she loved more than simply being his Nana. Linda possessed an extraordinary imagination. She had an unmatched gift for telling stories, creating characters and entire worlds inspired by whatever fascinated Jack at the moment. Whether reading books together or inventing new tales on a whim, she filled his early childhood with wonder and laughter. Those memories will remain among Jack's greatest gifts from his Nana. She proudly attended his hockey games whenever she could and faithfully watched every weekend by livestream when distance kept her away. His joys became her joys. Nothing made her happier than seeing Jack smile. She often said she had never felt more loved than she did by Jack. Linda was fiercely independent and curious. She had a sharp mind and an even sharper sense of humor. She delighted in challenging herself with puzzles, never missed her daily Wordle, passionately cheered on the Pittsburgh Penguins, and loved sharing a wonderful meal, especially Italian food or a perfectly cooked medium steak. In May 2026, Linda was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, a devastating illness that changed the course of her life far too quickly. Even in the face of such heartbreak, she met every challenge with strength, grace, humor, and determination.

During the final months of her life, Linda moved to Summit, New Jersey, where Ross, Alexis and Jack cared for her. Although those months were unimaginably difficult, they became some of her most meaningful. Every act of care, every conversation, every laugh, and quiet moment together reminded her that she was held close by those she loved most. While Linda's life ended far sooner than anyone wished, her story is not one of cancer or loss. It is, above all, a story of love. Love for her family, her patients, her students, and her friends. Love that she gave throughout her life, and the love she received so abundantly in return. In the end, she left this world knowing exactly how deeply she was loved. There is great sadness in saying goodbye too soon, but even greater gratitude for a life so full of purpose, laughter, imagination, and unwavering devotion. That is the story her family will carry forward. She will be profoundly missed and forever remembered. Her family is grateful to the physicians, nurses, and staff at Overlook Hospital. Their care, kindness, and support brought Linda comfort, dignity, and peace throughout her illness and in her final days. Their generosity of spirit will never be forgotten. Linda is survived by her son, Ross Miller (50); her daughter-in-law, Alexis McDermott (46); her adored grandson, Jack Thomas Miller (8); and her sister-in-law, Betty Pacini. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sarah "Sally" Pacini and Pellegrino "Mish" Pacini; her brother, Gary P. Pacini; and her nephew, Michael Pacini.
