John J. Didion Sr. (Dodi)&(Didzo)

September 9,1949-July 15, 2026

Age 76 formerly of Mount Washington, he was the cherished husband of 51 years to Barbara (Girdwood), son of the late Adrian and Ruth Didion, father of John J Didion Jr., Jennifer (Chris) Harris, and Lisa (Jonathan) Slair. He was Pap to Kylie (Richie Dunner), Hannah and Aidan( Lexie Guzel) Didion, Chase and Chelsey Harris, and his beloved grand dogs Kona and Millie. Brother of Ruth Ann (Joe) Martinelli, and the late Barbara Kuklis. Brother-in-law of Robert (DeeDee) Girdwood, the late Cheryl (surviving Edward) Reithmiller, Norma Girdwood, Joe (Melynda) Girdwood, and Janet (Karlos) Niswonger. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great-nephews.

His love of sports started when he coached baseball for WHAA as a young adult and continued with his passion for all things Pittsburgh, Steelers, Pens, Buccos right down to Pitt. As his children got older he brought Christmas to life with his extensive in-house train village displays. As his family grew he enjoyed going to the Meadows, especially on Saturday nights with his dad in tow, where they always enjoyed a Manhattan before dinner.

The family would like to send a heartfelt thank you to the UPMC Family Hospice team for their care and guidance through this process.

Family and friends will be received on Sunday, July 19, 2026, and Monday, July 20, 2026. from 2-8 PM at WILLIAM SLATER II FUNERAL SERVICE (412) 563-2800 1650 Greentree Rd. Scott Twp., 15220. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, 10 am at St. Catherine of Siena Church-St Teresa of Kolkata Parish. 1810 Belasco Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15216. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
