Sharpsburg
On Sunday , October 18, 2026, Carolyn “Sis” Schepis passed away
peacefully. She was surrounded by her four daughters as the Lord
welcomed her home to a place of eternal rest, where she is now reunited
with her beloved husband, Peter.
Carolyn was born November 18th, 1932 to her Italian and German parents,
Vincent and Mercedes Gigante, of East Liberty. She later became a

Carolyn was the true definition of a Renaissance Woman; she rode horses,
raised livestock, and worked many jobs before becoming a dedicated wife,
mother, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother. Carolyn’s love knew no
bounds and this was evident in her love of holiday traditions, family game
nights, film and TV, music, travel, slot-machines, cooking, nature, and art of
all kinds. Carolyn was also a devout Catholic, and did all things in the name
of God.
Many knew Carolyn by - “Sis” - a nickname bestowed upon her not just by
the members of her family, but also by the hundreds of friends she made
over the course of her lifetime – a true “Sis” to all who knew her .
Carolyn is survived by her four daughters Betsy (Tony) LaRussa, Becki
Schepis, Bobbi (Ron) Gross, Barbara (Kevin) Bick. She is also survived by
15 grandchildren, 3 great-grand children, and many nieces and nephews
whom she loved dearly. Carolyn is preceded in death by her husband Peter
Schepis, parents Vincent and Mercedes Gigante, brother Vince “Jr.”
Gigante, sister Mercedes “Dolly” (Herbert) Ellerbrock, and grandson
Anthony LaRussa.
